Self-recovery and slow reconnection: how to rebuild yourself

As a community-focused organisation, Insurx knows firsthand the heavy strain that the last two years have placed on the shoulders of our customers, clients, and supplier network. We also understand the long tail of recovery due to the pandemic.
In this Covid landscape, recovery from major disruptions to schooling, work, life and finances is ripe for developing emotional and social issues.
These tips can help you manage your mental health and start rebuilding yourself.
Go at your own pace
It might be tempting to make many plans and say yes to everything, but there is no need to rush. Instead, take it step by step and only do what feels right to you, without the pressure of getting back to social life immediately.
Focus on inner peace
Finding yourself a safe, quiet moment in the present can have a powerful impact on reducing stress levels in the body. Slowing down, resting, taking time out, meditation or breathwork are all helpful and unbelievably simple tools for taking yourself into a relaxed state.
Gently rebuild mind skills
It is normal to feel worried and anxious, however, our thoughts can sometimes be unhelpful. Therefore, it is important to learn how to find a different way to look at a situation and find opportunities to change our thinking.
Rebuild your network
When the time is right, slowly reintroduce socialising activities and surround yourself with friends and loved ones. Research shows that social isolation can change your brain over time, resulting in a decline in cognitive function.
This time is also an opportunity to reconsider your social circle. If you realised during the pandemic that certain people were more present and supportive than others, it is ok to focus on those relationships that feel more fruitful.
These small steps can help you establish some normality back into your routine.
